Dilu: 你好,欢迎收听中文搏客, 我是 Dilu

John: Hey guys, I'm John, this is an intermediate lesson

Dilu: 恩,今天的课程我们会讲会议室,发生的事情

John: 会议室, so that's 3 4th tones, that's a meeting room

Dilu: 对, 三个第四声。会议室

John: All-right, so we're going to listen to a dialogue between a guy who wants to use the meeting room and a, the receptionist or whatever who's in charge of scheduling it

Dilu: 恩, 而且呢,还会听到[不通]的 department in a company

John: And there's some crazy competition for this meeting room. All-right, so lets listen in

Dilu: 好, 先听以下对话

John: OK, so right in the beginning this guy foolishly thinks that he's just going to waltz into the meeting room, it's going to be free, but what's the situation?

Dilu: 技术部在开会,技术部在开会

John: So 技术部,3 4th tones, that's the tech department right?

Dilu: 对, 技术,两个第四声,就是 tech, 部就是我们说的[不通]的 department, 部门

John: OK, and he can't just really wait until they're finished right? What's the deal with that?

Dilu: 等他们开完估计要吃午饭了

John: All-right, this sentence is a little bit complicated, lets break it down

Dilu: 好

John: First of all, we start off with a verb, what is it?

Dilu: 等,等。第三声

John: OK, but this doesn't mean 'wait'. Um, you can think of it as like 'If we wait until they finish', but it's really more of like a 'once they finish'

Dilu: 对,等他们开完,等他们开完

John: So this means 开完会,like finish their meeting right?

Dilu: 对

John: OK, so once they've finished their meeting, then what?

Dilu: 估计要吃午饭了

Dilu: 估计要吃午饭了

John: So 估计, 1st tone, 4th tone, what does this mean?

Dilu: 这个词的翻译是 estimate

John: OK, it's a verb, it's kind of like English, 'I guess' or 'I reckon'

Dilu: 或者是 ‘I think'

John: Maybe you know, these kinds of meanings

Dilu: 对,很多人会用可能

John: Right, 可能, maybe

Dilu: 对,跟这个词很 [捷径] 如果你要用可能的时候, 啊,we encourage you to use this word instead, 估计

Dilu: 不是,不是。她的意思是说等他们开完会议后,这个时间就到了吃午饭的时间了

John: OK, so I think that by the time they finish their meeting, it will be time for lunch. OK, so you can't get your meeting in before lunch

Dilu: 恩,而且你不可以[再会一时]吃饭

John/Dilu: 哈哈哈

John: OK, That's not allowed. All-right, and then what's the next thing?

Dilu: 这几天会议室好枪手,会议室好枪手

John: OK, so the meeting room is really。。。

Dilu: 枪手,枪手。两个第三声

John: Two 3rd tones. This might look like a noun, but it's not a noun, it's an adjective

Dilu: 对,是一个形容词,就是很受欢迎

John: So it's something that's really in demand, everyone wants it

Dilu: 对

John: Then it's 枪手

Dilu: 对,会议室很枪手

John: So what other things are often 枪手?

Dilu: 在中国过年的时候火车票很枪手

John: 啊, OK, so around chinese new year it's hard to get train tickets, everyone wants 'em, they're really in demand, and they're also limited. So you can use 枪手 as an adjective

Dilu: 对

John: OK, and then the guy asks a question...

Dilu: 下午呢?怎么安排?,下午呢? 怎么安排?

John: OK, now you might be tempted to think that he's asking 'how will you arrange the afternoon', 'how are you planning to arrange the afternoon meetings'

Dilu: 恩, 不是,不是

John: But it's actually...it's already decided right?

Dilu: 对,已经发生了。啊,其实这句话是 是怎么安排的,下午是怎么安排的

John: So you can also say 我估计 right? I estimate...

Dilu: 对,我估计他不会来了

John: So I estimate he's not coming anymore or I'm guessing he's not coming anymore, that kind of thing

Dilu: 恩, 对,或者说我估计今天要加班

John: So, I'm thinking we're probably going to have to work overtime again today

Dilu: 对

John: OK, now let's look at the sentence again, ok, so one more time, what is the sentence?

Dilu: 等他门开完估计要吃午饭了

John: So once they're finished with their meeting, I estimate they're gonna eat lunch in the meeting room. Is that what they're saying?
