sushan - NY Times Series on Environmental Impact of Growth in China
Hi all, I've been following this series, called Choking on Growth, in the Times. Just today I noticed that they have provided a summary of each article including an audio reading in Chinese. Check it out here:

Thank you for the link. I'm teaching a class that this may come in handy for.

Those articles are really good. Those stories aren't always told in the same way in China. My Chinese friends have appreciated the Mandarin podcasts of the articles.

Wow, that was powerful. Thanks for the link. We do talk a lot about the pollution here in Hong Kong. We have signed many petitions. Not much happens though. When the winds blow in from the Pearl River, the pollution is awful. Even our vet says that he sees that our pets are suffering from respiratory problems and eye infections. Don't forget that China's current prosperity is tied directly to the world's demand for low cost goods. We are all to blame. The US economy and the Chinese economy are inextricably linked.

Well put wei1xiao4. The petitions might be very worthwhile, by the way. Just because there isn't immediate action doesn't mean the message isn't getting across.
