IHi henning,

I'm sure that drinking beer has enhanced your translation ability. Drinking always makes you a fluent foreign language speaker.

(manage)朝廷 and (control, govern)风俗

亦无班姑, 蔡女之德能
I've just found that both 班姑 (or 班昭) and 蔡女 (or 蔡文姬) are very famous talented women in Han dynasty (东汉).

Changye,

Thats great, makes sense now. I did a search for 蔡女 and 班姑, but could not find anything relevant. So that part should translate as:

Also there are no great women of virtue and ability(such as 蔡女 and 班姑).

For the record, 班姑 is the younger sister of that 班固 who wrote a well-known historiograpy "汉书". Wow, what an intelligent family they are!

Just had a quick look at the next paragraph, a rather long speech by the stone. It is a scathing criticism of the literature of the period. It would be nice to translate it all as one chunk to maintain the narrative flow, but it would take a very long time to finish. Not sure I have the courage to try it!

The 蔡女 and 班姑 were a real obstacle here.

derek, the next paragraph looks like a week's amount of content...

After further consideration it might be better to just do one sentence at a time. :)

Henning, if you have time to start the paragraph go ahead, I will continue after that.
