Can someone help me?  Vista permits the user to view chinese characters.  SO I have been using the multiple languages and characters ability.  This works out fine.  However, certain applications show the characters as messed up symbols.

For instance, MS Word shows the characters as they should be read.  So does IE, and notepad.  But other programs like QQ and Transtar show the characters as a real mess.

What can I do to have The programs to read in chinese characters instead of "^$^%#*&^)*&*%^"?

Dear all,

after trying all sorts of keyboard drivers on my windows laptop and discussing with IT nerds, Chinese and Laowei firends snd considering psychotherapy instead I still have found no way of displaying the 4 tones in the Pinyin writing.

I am not very fond of writing numbers behind every syllable.

Anybody has any ideas for a software / Keyboard driver?

How do you folks in CHinesepod do it?

Because I want to practise my handwriting, I write everything with pen and paper, and then type it up on my Mac so I don't have to keep wads of paper. Ideally, I would like to be able to handwrite directly onto my Mac. Which brings me to my question: does anyone use Chinese handwriting recognition software on their Mac?

Hello!

Do you know Lingoes? Lingoes is a software which includes  dictionaries and text translation. I have just started to use this software, and I think it very useful.

What are the major differences between these two products, Wenlin and Pleco?

Pleco is mobile and Wenlin is for computers, and the price, Wenlin $199/£125 Pleco $99.95/£62.50. I've been using the trial versions of each for a few weeks and Wenlin seems more informative regarding Characters, though it's difficult to get a proper comparisson without actualy purchasing both. Any users with experiance on the difference would be much appretiated.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to verify my pronounciation on whole sentences that I wrote down, for instance I'd like to paste in the computer: "wǒ zài měi guó", and the computer would pronounce that for me, and I would repeat the sentence.

Is there such a software package or maybe a website ?

thank you.

It's been brought up here and there, but have we had a specific thread about it? Probably, but I can't remember seeing one, so I'll make one now.

Seriously, why aren't you using Spaced Repetition? I keep seeing all these comments about "I study each lesson this much, but then I forget half of the words" and I can't help thinking: "Why?" It seems to me to be a terrible waste of time to learn words and then forget them. Then you have to learn them again! And then maybe forget them once more. Isn't that annoying? It sounds very annoying to me.

So why aren't you using SRS?

Anyone know of an English Chinese Dictionary software for Windows? I've bought a netbook with Windows 7 in preparing for my China trip and I'm searching for a English Chinese Dictionary with pinyin as well as Chinese characters to load into the netbook.

Strange that there are various such dictionaries for hand held devices such as the Iphone and Google Andriod, but seemingly non for the ordinary Windows computer. I've searched Amazon, Google and can't seem to find such an English to Chinese dictionary for the Windows operating system.
