I like 牌子 as a description because it is such a versatile word. The other day I was watching one of those crazy myths and legends films (usually the quality is super low), when someone throws a metal 牌子 at a group of men and they all scatter. Camera zooms to a gold bar arrangement the size of a car number plate so you can read the message .. something about imminent death! Look of horror on the face of the target! Sort of like pointing the bone.. Anyway, to lighten the mood I will start with a few signs here near where I live - I would love to get your comments!
