This group aims at a line-by-line approach to the Chinese classic 红楼梦. The novel is hereby understood to be a vehicle that leads to a deeper understanding of a more formal, (semi-) classic Chinese. In the beginning the unit of discussion will be atomic in nature (sentence-level). An expected by-product are insights into Chinese literature and culture. Meandering discussions that digress into grammar, ethymology, and history are more than welcome.

忽念及当日所有之女子I suddenly remember (念及) that day (当日) when there was a woman   当日not means that day，but  " the old time" 所有之女子not means there was a woman, but "those girls " suddenly I remember those girls in the old time...
