Sports Details in Chinese
Join
The idea here is that for those that are interested in seeing more detail and content around specific sports when we watch CCTV-5 or some sports program in Chinese, we can come here to
1) post dialogue and have it translated, or have some Chinese dialogue corrected for accuracy.
2) get a better sense of how the sport is being described in Chinese so that we really understand what announcers are saying.
3) hopefully gain the type of understanding of the necessary Chinese, so that we can understand how to describe the nuances of a well played game in Chinese as well as in English.
The thinking would be that you'd be able to say to your Chinese friends something like:
- "The biggest rule change in Formula 1 this year is that cars cannot refuel during the race. This means that the cars were redesigned to drive the 150-200 miles or so on one tank of fuel. It also means that the choice of tires to use, and when to use the tires becomes critical. Race teams must use both hard compound tires as well as soft compound tires during the race, and that complicates race strategy as well".
- "One of the biggest keys to a soccer team is your defense. Some people call them full backs or backs, these are your guys that are your last line of defense before you get to the goal keeper. Defenders, you have one of the most important jobs in your team, cause the key is being able to support each other. The key is learning how to contain and not just attack. As someone is dribbling towards you, instead of just attacking the ball you want to come back and support the person before you attack the ball".
- "It was an incredible blowout of the Kobe Bryant-led Lakers. It seemed like everything the Celtics threw up went in following great ball movement, while the Lakers vaunted "triangle" offense stalled when the Celtics cut off its passing lanes. Los Angeles was left with Kobe getting the ball at mid-court and trying to single-handedly create points against 5 Celtics. Kobe went 7-of-22 from the field for 22 points".
