August 17, 2008, 10:53 AM习惯 can be used as a verb get used to or a noun habit .For example,他刚来到中国，对这里的生活还不习惯,it is used as a verb here.
吸烟是个不好的习惯。it is used as a noun here.
适应usually be used as a verb which means to accommodate,to adapt.到外国留学，得学着适应那里的生活。
习惯和适应has similar meaning when using as a verb. Take the example on the top,you can also say this way 他刚来到中国，对这里的生活还不适应。another example,他不能适应中国南方夏天炎热的天气。
