i've been in china for 5 months and i only learned counting in my 3rd month.. i thought i was really stupid..

i am so fascinated that i can understand the chinese language when i listen to chinesepod but when i talk to chinese people i can barely understand what they are saying.. when i try to talk to them it seemed to me that they don't understand me.. i'm guessing my tones are not right :D

chinesepod

love the picture it reminds of SprintNextel...

i hope you can also put the pinyin in the conversation tab.. i'm not sure if it applies to all newbies like me but  find it easier to say chinese words if i can read the pinyin..

let me tell you my toilet experiences..

i am in gaomi shandong province. i teach in a school here and my apartment is in the main building of the school. my toilet is one of the toilets used by anybody before but is now an exclusive for me. it's a squat type and i have no problems with that it's just that there is no ventilation so i admit i get suffocated with my own poop smell :) and going to the toilet is the worst experience i ever had and the rest are pretty good. however public toilets are really awful nigthmares so whenver i go out for grocery shopping and there's a need for a toilet i always go to KFC. their toilet is a squat but it's really clean and there is good ventilation.

i also heard of a story from a missionary in who went to India. he went to the toilet to do hs thing and he found a stick inside. he was bewildered with the use of the stick. he thought it might be that they are using it as the toilet paper.. suddenly he heard pigs down the hole and they were trying to suck "it" before it goes it and then he figured out the use of the stick. that was so disgusting and funny. during his stay there he decided not to eat pork as long as he was there..

hi i am in shandong.. my friend and i were grocery shopping and we passed along the wine section. my friend was curious of the wines here in china so she bought a bottle of it. it's the red wine and the name was changyu i think. the lady didn't give us the cork opener and we were too silly to forget to ask as well. anyway she was very excited to taste it but when she did she was so displeased with the taste.. maybe you can give me hints to which are the brands of the good wines.. that would be really appreciated for i also want to taste some wine it's been a while since i did..
