November 8, 2011 at 2:59 PMMy download of the audio lesson is 5 minutes 30 seconds, though the read out says it is almost 18 minutes. And there is no explantation of the final line. A mystery.

September 22, 2011 at 8:40 PMJenny,
Discover Card is a credit card that was started by Sears Roebuck & Company 26 years ago and was not expected by many to succeed. It has since spun off from Sears but has always been located in the Chicago area. I think it has done well because of its cash back bonuses and some nifty marketing gimmicks, like custom background's. For example, my card's background is Seurat's "a sunday afternoon on the island of la grande" jatte" http://thebeeandlee.blogspot.com/2011/07/thats-what-seurat-said.html (Reminds me of home where the painting is exhibited).
No relationship to the Discovery Channel - though I see they were both started in the same year.

September 12, 2011 at 1:20 AMThis podcast is the best explanation I have heard of the lunisolar calendar. Other explanatons are confusing, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunisolar_calendar It would be nice if there were a list of the holidays mentioned in the podcast.

September 5, 2011 at 3:32 PMWhen I first arrived in China the woman who met us at the airport said \"I like your name\". I thanked her but didn't know what she was talking about. Later, at a banquet I noticed my name on the name card was 富兰克林 / fulankelin / Franklin. Much later, I decided my name Chinese name was 富林, / fulin / abundant forest. I have always figured this is what she was talking about, but have no idea if this is a ligitimate name,

July 24, 2011 at 5:03 PMThere must be an epidemic or maybe a meme of 缩阳 /suoyang / shrink male. This is the second reference to it I have seen in a couple of days. It was mentioned in the 内经 / Nèijīng / Yellow Emperor's internal canon, medical text.

March 18, 2011 at 3:27 PMThe character 困 (a tree in a box), kùn means both "sleepy" and "to trap". How do you know the difference? I suppose it is one of those you can tell by context things.

December 3, 2010 at 3:24 PMI read that a difference between a Chinese Emperor and a Western King is their perceived relationship to their respective Gods. Emperors were answerable to God, whereas Kings spoke for God. Therefore Emperors were more accountable.
I suspect it had to do with the individual Emperor, King or God - and then there is the Pope.

November 17, 2013 at 12:36 AMI took a earlier version of this course and am taking this one. Kirby is a character. I very much enjoyed the first version which was pretty straight lecture. This one is more Web interactive and technology usage advanced.
