I am living in Guangdong province at the moment, and I have found it really frustrating, as everybody here speaks cantonese. It's pretty hard on my mandarin listening skills. Any advice on how to improve my listening whilst here? Also, I have learned to speak and use pinyin, but my reading is virtually illiterate. How can I catch up?

June 27, 2007 at 10:45 AMI really liked this lesson. It was a pleasant change from the usual style, and the music was a nice touch. BTW- although completely unrelated to this topic- Does it matter if you speak mandarin with an accent- for example if you have learned mandarin in a province other than a northern one?
