January 17, 2008 at 2:50 AMwhat is more , for the word "bald", i think "光头" should be better. "秃子" is a little bit offensive, if u say to a chinese that he is a 秃子. sometimes one should find another word instead of the taboo. while i dont know how to express myself freely. lol

January 17, 2008 at 2:16 AMamber, i have learned the english-chinese hairstyles from ur above comment. but dont quite understand what "dreadlocks: 脏辫 (zāng biàn) " is . i just referred to my dictionary and it says"hair worn in long curled pieces, especially by some black people (尤指某些黑人的)长发绺" i do saw some black people with such hairstyle and combined with ur translation , i wonder is their hair really dirty? is 脏=dirty here? or something else? tks

January 17, 2008 at 1:55 AMDcrlin, what the tone of the word "fa" in "tou fa" is depends on the accents of people of different areas. if u want a really correct one,u had better be sure that ur chinese dictionary should be the latest version.'cause the tone of some words are always changed by the authorities. if u would like to use a totally chinese dictionary,i suggetst u use the "现代汉语词典" which is published by 商务印书馆.http://baike.baidu.com/view/98457.htm. as long as u can make urself understood, u dont need to worry about the tones (especially the first ,second and neutral tones)too much. for example, the word 知道, zhi 1 dao ,zhi 1 dao 4,zhi 2 dao 4, all of these tones are used in different areas and generally acceptable. people can understand what u mean. it is ok. am i getting u lost? lol
