Thanks for the reply. Why didn't receive an automatic notification about your response?

I'm glad to hear that it is a well-thought out decision. I apologize for suggesting otherwise.

The sound engineers do a great job at putting the music on, it's the decision to put the music on, rather than the way it's put on, that I disagree with.

Perhaps I am on my own on this one; I am the only one who is distracted by music.

I have been using it for years now, but unfortunately the music etc. may stop me renewing my membership - it has become one of those things; I am driven to distraction. This is a shame as I love the content - it's quality and quantity, and all of the presenters. However, this is probably just me that feels this way. If so, then I can't expect you to act on my decision.

Without the music and sound effects, you guys are STILL miles apart from the "book on tape" approach; it is almost an insult to ChinesePod to suggest that the music and sound effects are a significant factor that sets you apart from the more traditional approaches.

Sorry to go on about this, but as far as I am aware, nobady has given me any sort of answer. Why is there music on the podcast?

If I was reading the blog entry that is featured on the recording, I would have the option of turning off the music; I have no choice on a podcast.

As usual, I find the music distracting. When studying Chinese I like silence, or, at least, the ability to be able to choose my own music.

Please give me an explanation of the music. Is it anymore than a sound engineer showing off?

Thank you. I love everything about ChinesePod, except the idiotic music and, increasingly, the fact that noone is answering my questions on the subject.

Once again, a plee for some more thought to go into the background music and sound effects. Maybe it is that my Chinese is not good enough, but having listened several times, I could not find out what she did into the water. All I heard was a splash. I guess she tiao'd? I almost jumped myself...

Background music nazi, back again...

I love Chinesepod, and hate to be negative about this almost-perfect resource, but the background music/sound effects of this lesson are unnacceptable.

I have noticed that music isn't used in the discussion - great. However, it stays in the dialogue.

I guess this is to make it more realistic?

I think any music is distracting. If I want to listen to music while trying to familiarize myself with the nuances of the Chinese language, I will put something on myself.

Yet I accept people may like it in the dialogue to create a more realistic environment, after all we barely have silence in the real world when listening to CHinese people talk. If this is the argument to keep music, could at least some thought go into it? How realistic is it though to have a piece of music that noone would ever listen to out of choice, distinct pencil noises, and bird song?

Excellent lesson. Just one question, why on earth is there music playing in the background?

I can see no reason for this, other than a producer wanting to show off that he or she can put music in the background. There is no place for this, especially in a lesson when I am doing my best to concentrate on what is being said.

Does anyone agree with me?

Yours, a boring old-fashioned Englishman.
