A man claiming to be Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi appeared in an ISIS video released earlier this week.

Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, has not appeared in the terrorist group’s videos since July of 2014.

In the new video, Baghdadi praised the April 21st bombings in Sri Lanka.

He said that the attack, in which over 250 people were killed, represented an act of revenge for ISIS’s loss of the Syrian town of Baghouz.

The jihadi leader encouraged his followers to keep fighting in “the long battle.”

ISIS’s so-called caliphate in Syria collapsed with the liberation of Baghouz in late March.

However, thousands of underground ISIS fighters may still be present in Syria and Iraq.

ISIS has also expanded internationally since losing ground in the Middle East.

Also known as Daesh, the terrorist group claims that it will yet establish a global caliphate.

In response to the video, a spokesman of the US-led coalition fighting ISIS told CNN, "We are continuing to support partner forces in their mission of an enduring defeat of Daesh."
