Any one of us here will tell you the golden rule of dining: Never, we mean never, ask what kind of meat it is. So, should you care to counter that “Mystery Meat” with something that came from the earth, of course it’s ChinesePod to the rescue. In this podcast, we help you to learn how to use Mandarin Chinese to ask for something green--before you turn that same color.

Tom
Re: Is a tomato a veggie or a fruit - I once heard that if it continues to ripen after you pick it, it's a fruit, if it doesn't it's a veggie. Guess that would put the tomato into the fruit category.

cpod, looks like now you'll have to do an episode on fruit with a heated discussion of whether a tomato is a fruit or a veggie!

Cheers, Tom

ChinesePod.com
hi Tom,thanks for your recipe. you know, even for the people who don't like to cook(like me) would love to cook this delicious 蕃茄炒蛋fān qié chǎo dàn. it's easy and simple.thank you again.
蕃茄(fān qié)and 西红柿(xī hónɡ shì) are exactly the same. Both are frequently used on the manu. But in Shanghai I think 蕃茄(fān qié) is more common.

And to all,
Here are some supplimentary words for today's show
西瓜xī ɡuā -water melon
冬瓜dōnɡ ɡuā -winter melon-winter melon(literally)
哈密瓜hā mì ɡuā- cantaloupe
茄子qié zi-eggplant

To Lantian

Thanks for you excellent dialogue on 苦瓜& 空心菜.
