Great lesson!! I noticed that the background music is sneaking back into the podcasts again. :-( If at all possible could you not play the music during the Chinese part of the lesson? It would be fine during the intro and ending. But I and perhaps others find it very distracting when we are trying to listen to a new language. Thanks for all you do!]]> Diana (古德安)

Jenny and Ken and CPoddies A little off topic but I was watching the documentary on China Rises last night. Part of it showed a local village election in China. As they were counting the ballots and writing the totals on a blackboard, I saw they were doing so in fives. Not so unusual, but instead of using four vertical lines with a fifth slashed diagonal across (as we would in the West), they used the character 正 [zhèng]. Five strokes. So there were lots of 正 正 正 .... I asked my friends and they said yes it is used in Taiwan as well. Is was interesting given the meaning of the character as well for tabulating votes.
