Thankfully the office is now stocked with coffee...

It should be noted that the body's vitamin C absorbtion is limited by the intake of caffeine - so there's no point eating a mandarin orange after your coffee. :-o

Hi changye

I agree, I have nothing against the taste of Nescafe. But I was drinking too much of it, just to get high.

In Shanghai, the best cup of coffee you can get at a restaurant is probably 85度-- 85 degrees, a Taiwanese chain store. Anyway, at 8 yuan for a cup, it's got the best 性价比 xìngjiàbǐ -- price performance.

And here's my gripe about the otherwise lovely Mr. Donut-- they never put real milk in the coffee. They just helpfully steer you to the little tubs of rat milk er, Coffee Mate.

My coffee habits only changed slightly in China. Here I can only choose from 2 Senseo brands in stead of 20+ back home *sigh*. If we run out of Senseo (sometime Metro's supply chain is a bit random) i'm a Nescafe girl. Btw, the best coffee in Nanjing is available at an Italian restaurant (owner from Napoli!) and we think it is similar to what you get in Italy. I really don't know why expats get a hardship allowance ;-).

Hi pete,

at 8 yuan for a cup

Not so bad! A cup of coffee at KFC is 5 yuan here in a small city in northeast China (中国东北), but its taste is worse than Nescafe (雀巢). If you want to have a real coffee, it would cost you more than 40 yuan, which is an extravagant price for the standard of living here. Incidentally, I recently use packed milk (牛奶) instead of Coffee Mate (咖啡伴侣, ban4 lv3) at home. I think it's more tasty. I love melamine, haha.
