Curious about what's going on at ChinesePod this week? Well you've come to the right place. In today's News and Features, Jenny, John, and Sarah will be discussing upcoming lessons. There's an interview with a representative from QQ International, updates on the ChinesePod Android app, and our exciting brand new iPhone app.

I already have a Beta version English version of QQ which works well in England and allows me to input in Chinese etc. If I download this new International version will it automatically up date or will I lose my contacts and have to add them again?

Makes sense that QQ International is all about focussing on foreigners living in China.Sounds imperative for them.I'm curious about the main benefits to foreigners not living in China. The main one that springs to mind is finding language partners.Any others? Also,I s'pose it will run ok on Windows 7 [as it only mentions xp and vista]? I s'pose I'll just have to give it a shot and find out. Thanks again for the iPhone app.

I'm not sure how it syncs with standard QQ ,but found this:

4.For Qzone fans, a quick link as been added to the platform to access directly your Qzone page in Chinese.

5.With simple right-click on a contact, you now have the option to visualize this contact’s Qzone in Chinese.

hmm, what gives ? I just downloaded the QQ platform and then tried to sign up for an account for the very first time. This process requires you to enter an email address. When I did this it won't accept it as it says "this ID has been registered".The screen prior said you could sign up using an existing email address. Can one creat a QQ email adress rather than use an existing email address then? Any ideas?

I found this:

In the English version of the QQ client, you can't bind an email address from QQ (@qq.com.) Sorry!

..but I wasn't initially trying that.It won't accept my usual email address. It also won't accept not entering/binding an email address.

Ok,I can report that it's working fine now.I just couldn't use my gmail account for some reason. It kept reckoning that account was already registered [ I can't see how that could be the case though...this was my first attempt and it wouldn't accept my usual password if somehow it was linked to CPod],so I had to use a different email address. The CPod lesson link worked fine and played fine [it seems to have selected both the latest lesson..in this case being news and features, and a couple of random newbie lessons from the archive].I can also happily report that it's all working fine so far in windows 7.Also,once the QQ account was created,it then allowed you to create a QQ email account, which is also working fine.

walishaari,

Currently, to see the pinyin on the iPhone app, you have to go all the way down to the word level.

The Android app works differently (you can toggle between English and pinyin on many pages), but this is due to the difference in interfaces on the two apps. We are planning some kind of toggle for the iPhone app in future releases, once we work out the optimum interface.
