Yes, this is probably due to the better preservation of traditional Chinese culture in Taiwan. In fact, some truly old-school men will refer to their wife as 内人-- “inside person." The times, they are a-changin'.

I seem to remember John Pasden giving us a list at one stage of about 20 (?) expressions for husband. Some may be regional, but the three above would have widespread use.
