As we mentioned, you can get 20% off all Premium & Basic e-vouchers (for ChinesePod and other Praxis languages). Until December 31st only.

Details are here: http://chinesepod.com/voucher-sale

Happy New Year, everyone (I'm a tad over-excited, but that's probably pretty clear from the podcast)!!

A question: Is it possible to buy an e-voucher for a one-month Executive subscription?

Also, if one is given, say, a 12 month Premium e-voucher, but already has an active subscription of another time, can said one choose to sit on his voucher until the current subscription lapses and then use it?

@ancalagon

As long as the voucher is valid still (they do expire after a year or so), then you can redeem it at any point.

The vouchers work by adding credit to the recipient's account, so a voucher can be redeemed and a subscription can then be bought with it at any point.

With regard to the Executive question, I will speak to the Support Team and get back to you directly tomorrow, as soon as we're back in the office. The vouchers are for six months and upwards, but we should be able to sort something out for you.

@suxiaoya

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I'm not understanding your description of the process clearly, but are you saying that the addition of a received gift voucher to an account simply credits the account with however much money was on the voucher? In other words, if I buy someone, say, a 6 month Premium voucher, will their account be flagged for (a) a 6 month Premium voucher; or (b) the monetary value of a 6 month Premium value? The latter would obviously be ideal as it would give the recipient a great deal of added flexibility. Perhaps he decides he doesn't have the time to make full use of a premium subscription; he could parley the value of that 6 month Premium into a 12 month Basic, which would give him more bang for the buck.

Sort of random question-

I find myself correcting people, especially for the benefit of my Chinese professors, on how to pronounce certain Chinese words. For instance, it's Dr. Wang with a soft a sound not Dr. WAng with a hard a sound. However, I've often noticed on ChinesePod and elsewhere that, while in the dialogues Shanghai is pronounced with the soft a, when speaking in English people tend to pronounce it ShAnghai with the hard a. Is there a reason for this? I've also noticed a similar thing with the pronunciation of Beijing from a Chinese j to a French j. Shouldn't words like Shanghai always be pronounced properly?

I am able to confirm that we can create special one-month Executive e-vouchers for you. Please email support@praxislanguage.com and we can do so right away
(you may also wish to CC me: sarah.edson@praxislanguage.com).

@ancalagon @paulinurus

The ChinesePod voucher credits can be used towards a ChinesePod subscription of any type, as long as their monetary value covers it. In this way, it is quite flexible, yes.

The current vouchers expire at the end of 2011, so you have some time to play with!

suxiaoya,

I received a 6-month premium voucher a while back that expires 31/12/09. I have already 'redeemed' the voucher and the credits have been added to my account. Do I need to put those credits towards an extension by the end of the year (this Thursday) or are they good past that point if I don't decide what I want to do with them?

Not sure this is proper forum for this question, but since the topic is vouchers I figured I'd give it a try.

Thanks!
