Uber Technologies Inc. is finalizing a $3.1 billion cash-and-share deal to acquire its Dubai-based competitor, Careem Networks FZ. The deal precedes Uber’s much anticipated initial public offering. Analysts predict Uber’s listing to be one of the biggest in the history of the New York Stock Exchange.

Uber Technologies Inc. is finalizing a $3.1 billion cash-and-share deal to acquire its Middle Eastern competitor, Careem Networks FZ.
The deal may be announced as early as Tuesday.
As reported in Bloomberg, Uber has offered Careem $1.4 billion in cash in addition to $1.7 billion in notes that will be convertible to Uber shares at $55 per share.
Bloomberg’s informants requested anonymity because the talks remain confidential.
Careem was founded by two former McKinsey consultants in 2012 and is now one of the most valuable startups in the Middle East.
According to Careem’s website, the company employs over a million drivers across 15 countries.
Uber and Careem compete in passenger and food transport in the Middle East, south Asia, and north Africa.
The deal between Uber and Careem precedes Uber’s hotly anticipated initial public offering, which it is expected to file in April.
The company may be valued at as much as $120 billion, which would situate its listing among the five largest ever seen on the New York Stock Exchange.
