National Day of Mourning for landslide victims in Gansu

This explains why sites such as tudou are blocked today. Tudou had the message in it's search bar:

哀悼舟曲遇难同胞

 

and smgbb had the same as above and added:

全国举行哀悼活动

It's whole page is in black and white and seems to be covered in articles about the tragedy. Unable to view any of the articles {? because too many hits}

..Wow. This speaks a lot about the unity of the nation and their feeling for their 同胞..which is an interesting word for fellow citizen or countryman...literally "same womb". How does one express condolences in such a situation?

Yes, from conversations with some Chinese friends, this is being taken very seriously, as is the 65th anniversary of the defeat of Japan by China.  (??)  I know it probably seems callous, but in these events I always wonder how much of the disaster is due to truly disastrous natural events (e.g Sichuan earthquake) and how much is due to poor zoning (e.g. New Orleans).
