我认为没有捷径。

At present, I can skip and usually get the jist of an article, or I can painstakingly look up each word that I don't recognize, and get a complete word-by-word understanding that way.  As I do this, the number of words I don't recognize gradually decreases over time.

However, I think you shouldn't look down on skipping.  I think reading quickly is a different kind of skill, that also needs to be developed.

Every once and a while I come across words in English newspapers that I am unfamiliar with.  I hope you don't think it is necessary to know all the words in an article.

That said, I used to buy newspapers and use the dictionary on my cell to look up every word I didn't know.  It was time consuming, but eventually I didn't have to look up words as much.  I find now that there are a lot of words that I can understand their meaning when I read them, but there is no way I can recall and use them while having a conversation.
