2 read (Chinese) news

I have been toying with the idea for a while, finally decided to start a new 88group to help reading news in Chinese - still experimenting:

Short news bulletins with extracted vocab
I have been annotating news I read for quite a while, why not share them. Most will come from either RFI or the BBC, if (c) permits. No particular logic to topic selection, but I will stick to short pieces.

...and of course there's a bit of Javascript at work to speed up vocab abd html formatting, always in need of tweaking

Kewl Beans....count me in. Just in case you like to watch chinese news, there is a daily report on Chinaontv.com. It's in English, so it won't really help your studies, but it's pretty cool if you want to keep up with the news.

This seems to be the idea behind www.newsinchinese.com, too.

Thanks goulniky. An impressive piece of work, or to be more precise: 6 impressive pieces of work.

Joachim, I don't claim the idea is new or anything, I can't access your link, even taking out the final comma. I'm sure there's a wealth of experience behind that I'm not even trying to match. ChinesePera Kun may actually be the only crutch required to read websites in Chinese. But squeezing vocab out of that way seems to benefit me, I do it regardless, it's also very useful with the [search files] function in Wenlin to retrieve words or expressions. Making this public was just a matter of adding a little script for html reformatting, and also acts as an incentive to keep miving forward.

goulniky, I think you're on the right track. Sometimes doing extra work that has been done before is exactly what you need to make progress. I've done some of the same thing. Keep at it!

Joachim, has the service you're refering to disappeared ? Can't seem to find annoted news on adsotrans where this is redirected. Meanwhile, I've added a few more stories, now is the high season with 3-4 pieces/day, will try and maintain 1-2 on a regular basis.

kerou85: Did you take a look at "Fast Food Chinese"? Slightly weird, huh?

Thanks Yves - this has to be a lot of work. I know you are way ahead of me but this still has to be time consuming. This can be very helpful to me as a bootstrap to read on a level I am not at yet, thereby accelerating my development. I really find reading the most satisfying (so far).

thx, time consuming it is but manageable. It's almost become second nature, reading news with a mouse like others do it with a pen. And publishing only takes a minute.

That's a really good contribution, Goulniky! I've always felt we were missing more on current events in chinese.

Best group so far - although it easily doubles the daily Chinese work load... I started trying to follow the latest lessons as well as work backwards through the heap of material that is already there. I have finished reading through the newest 7 additions now, so still lots to do.

I checked out those 88groups and yours looks great - am really interested in joining. But how can I input more time into Chinese? There is a life to live, another language to learn...

thanks guys - I'm supposed to be on holidays this week, only half the number of lessons with Vera, that leaves plenty of time! I've been trying to schedule lessons ahead, trouble is news are best consumed fresh so I'm constantly enticed to add new stuff

Joachim, I've seen most of those "Fast Food Chinese" episodes and if you're trying to point out that the host (and his crazy co-host friend) is kind of a pervert, then I totally agree. I'm not sure why I keep watching that, but I guess I just latch on to anything that has anything to do with China. "Getaway" is really a good show though. ^_^
