Hi all,

I am in shanghai for the week and visited the shanghai book city in people's square.  This book shop is humungous, and very lost on what books I should buy to improve my chinese.  Do people have any recommendations of chinese books for an intermediate chinese podcaster?  I am thinking the recommendations could be split up into two groups.

(i) Books about learning mandarin, e.g. chinese practical reader or a book on measure words

(ii) Chinese novels (at a primary school level, I don't think my chinese is good enough for anything more advanced)

Thanks all!!!!

Well I was going to maybe suggest 500 Basic Chinese Characters-A Speedy Elementary Course, but since you're intermediate this may not be very useful to you...  I am a newbie so it's helped me.  There are some measure words in it!

I was going to post a similar question.  You wouldn't happen to know of any books on writing characters now would you?
