Hi all,

First time posing on here.  I have an idea that sounds good to me, but I'm not sure how possible it is.  Someone with a better understanding of computer science should be able to tell.

An engine that could cross-reference chinesepod lesson vocabulary with popular movie/tv subtitles could automatically recommend the TV shows/movies that would be most helpful in reinforcing the Chinesepod vocabulary.

1) Chinesepod uses word lists for each lesson, perhaps weighting the vocabulary that is "new" in each lesson as more important than the other vocab.

2) Users contribute to a database of popular Chinese TV/Movie subtitles. (or perhaps something like this already exists?)

3) Someone writes a search engine (program, algorithm? I have no idea what it would really be called...) to search for the vocabulary in the subtitles, and gives results like any search engine would.

What do you all think?

Google Desktop should work like this. But I haven't actually tried it, being unwilling to download and install Google Desktop. Download Google Desktop, your favorite Cpod Movie Madness lessons, and some key Cpod lessons, and give it a shot.

There is a database of subtitles in shooter.cn.

You could theoretically get a list of start and stop times for a set of movies and tv shows based on ChinesePod vocabulary characters from the srt files.
