How do I input chinese characters?

Hi,

I've just joined ChinesePod a few minutes ago and was wondering how I may type Chinese characters? I have already followed the control panel > regional languages till I've added the Chinese PRC simplified keyboard. Even after switching to CH Chinese (Simplified, PRC) keyboard, when typing a pinyin say, "Shanghai" it still won't convert it to chinese characters.

Pardon me if this is a very newbie question but any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you folks!

There shouldn't be much more to it than that.

If you hit the shift key, you toggle between English or Chinese. You should see either a 中 for Chinese input or a 英 for English input. Perhaps you are stuck in the English mode.

Nah that wasn't it, fortunately I figured it out. Can't use the Chinese (simplified ) US keyboard since that will just remain in english but instead when I tried Chinese Microsoft Pinyin ABC style. The latter works just fine.
