writing section of Online HSK can be typed?

Hey all,

I was considering taking the HSK but the biggest obstacle for me would be the writing section as I can write very few characters by hand from memory but I can read over a thousand.

I've read in a few places online that for the online HSK now it's possible for you to type pinyin and pick characters for the writing section. I haven't been able to confirm this.

I was wondering if anyone knew about this?

Thanks!

I have no personal experience, but I've seen people say repeatedly (online forums etc) that in most cases you can type the HSK now instead of handwrite.

I'd also be interested in getting a "definitive" answer.

Good luck!

Which level are you taking? For levels 1 and 2 no characters are needed at all, there's no writing section and the reading section has pinyin.

The test is available in both computer and paper versions (need to pick the right test centre for your needs).

I did HSK 2 last year on the computer, but there was no writing section on that test.

For level 3 it switches to completely Chinese characters. Here's a link from Hanban (the company that runs the test) stating that you can type the characters onto the computer: http://english.hanban.org/article/2011-11/11/content_388060.htm
