I'd like to have trial subscription for a month but unfortunately, I can't pay using paypal, it says error? Is there something wrong with the website lately? I'm worried that once I get to subscribe, are there any instances that I would might not get to download the files?

I have the exact opposite problem!

I cancelled my recurring subscription yesterday. Today I find that I have been billed again, and that my subscription will be renewed again in a month's time.

I have contacted CPod to ask for a cancellation and a refund, but what are the odds I will get a reply?

GIMME MY MONEY.

I have a question, for example, if you got a billing but you don't have the funds right inside your paypal account. What are the consequences?

This means they're service aren't that good. I'll try to think all over again whether to subscribe or not. This means they auto renew the subscription without asking the subscriber consent

Actually, it is a little more complicated than I described.

I left the cancellation until the last moment.

Just before I cancelled, I check by payment history on CPod to make sure I hadn't yet been billed for the next month - I hadn't.

Shortly after I cancelled (say an hour) I received an email from Paypal to say that ChinesePod had billed me.

About an hour later again, I received another email from Paypal to say that CPod had cancelled my recurring subscription.

So CPod did NOT notify Paypal immediately about the notification.

Despite the cancellation, my payment history page still tells me I will be billed again in a month's time. I think I am safe from this given that the recurring payment has been cancelled on Paypal, and a new one has not been set up.

Nevertheless, I want my money back for this month.

Regarding your question about Paypal - there are two ways that money can be transferred from Paypal. One is to set up an account which needs to be replenished when funds get low. The other is to link the account directly to your credit card - this is what I have done.

"... I CHECKED MY payment history ..."

"So CPod did NOT notify Paypal immediately about the CANCELLATION".

Give us the EDIT function back.

Yeah but weren't you the person who got several months of access for only 99 cents per month, due to a billing error? Time to suck it up.

That was what CPod charged me. I can't help their incompetence.

That was then, this is now. In each case, I am legally in the right.

(BTW I wasn't THE person, I was A person)

That's Karma, baby. No law or loophole holds it back.

That's really not fair, if you cancel the subscription it shouldn't renew.

Indeed, you can't have been the only person exploiting their oversight, as Jenny mentioned that it had cost them dear. Who knows how long it will take CPod to realize that their more recent business practices are costing them dear in terms of lost customers?

Haha, karma you say. I suppose all of the other people who didn't report that they were being billed 99c have also been affected by this karma?? Karma is a term used by people who don't understand coincidence, and keep silent in the 99.99% of cases where this coincidental payback doesn't occur.

As I've said before, not one of the people who benefited reported it for at least 8 months. So it looks like taking advantage of mistakes like this is the norm amongst the CPod users, not the exception.

RW Nut, If you are unsubscribed, how is it that you are still posting comments?

When you cancel at the last minute this will sometimes happen. Please make sure to cancel 24-48 hours before your subscription is scheduled to renew or the payment system may not catch the notification in time. Thank you.

Thanks for refunding my payment. But for the sake of other customers, would you please indicate where in your terms of service we are warned of this possibility.

Beats me.

Dear cndcclryu,

We have had a few users complain about Paypal issues but do not see a systemic problem since there have been successful transactions with Paypal in this time. It may be a web browser or cache issue. I would encourage you to try to pay with a credit card instead, or try a different browser. As to whether you would be able to download the lessons, whenever you have a subscription you get access to this option. Thank you for letting us know about this issue, if you have any further questions feel free to contact us directly at support@chinesepod.com.

Best regards,

ChinesePod Support Staff

Paying with Paypall sets up a recurring billing profile.  I have just bought a new basic subscription.   When I checked in Paypall I found that a recurring billing profile had been set up, which I have now cancelled.
