A new bug with PDF? (for Mozilla Firefox users only)

I’m aware someone may think that I’m a little obsessed with PDF transcripts and stuff like that (I reckon it, with some good reason!). The fact is that, unfortunately, I’m afraid I’ve found a new bug.

I’m not sure if anybody else has already spoken about that, if so I apologize in advance, and I’m a little worried that, up to now, seemingly, I’m the only one, having found this strange fact. So I would appreciate a lot if someone, among the users or from the technical staff of CP, could give some reply to help me to understand.

Using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14 (Xp service pack2), when I try to get the PDF transcripts (both direct left-click on the link, both right-click and open in a new window) the page,  very slowly appears (or even not), but remains  a trembling (abnormal) hourglass beside the arrow of the pointer, then, if I try do anything else, such as close the window, open new window or so, the interface became instable and eventually a real block of the program can occur.

I also have to say that using Internet Explorer everything works fine, at least about wiewing and dowloading the PDFs.

I’ve tried several times since yesterday and always is the same. I have the impression that this problem was not present from the very beggining of the new big change of ChinesPod, but  occurred only in a second moment, let say from yesterday on or so.

Thank you for your attention, Michele.

Hi Michele.  I just tried it using the same version of Firefox, with no problems.  The only difference is that I'm on a Mac.

michele,

I do (XP, SP2, Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0, Firefox 2.0.0.14), all recently patched.

Could not reproduce your problem (tried the latest 3 lessons).

谢谢你 henning , the only difference is that I have Adobe Reader 8.0... it remains some little hope for my computer.

Let me think.. it seems not a problem of Adobe Reader in "sé per sé", but a problem of Adobe Reader used in (or by)Mozilla Firefox

Some more material: even if I try to get the PDFs from the list of my RSS Feed in Mozilla Firefox is the same, now I can't download no one PDF.

But I think there is something wrong in this list, it appears a lot of traditional PDF for Qing Wen...quite a beautiful mess! and this should not be due to my computer, I think. And also in "My Personal RSS Lesson Feed - Settings" something has changed: I've found that PDF Transcript ( Traditional ) are no more selected.

michele, I noticed the missing traditional PDF feed also.  However, as pointed out by some others, if you pull up the simplified PDF and add trad to the end of the file name (e.g. chinesepod_E0897.pdf  becomes chinesepod_E0897trad.pdf); it's a workaround, but it works fine.

Regarding Firefox, what add-ons do you have installed?

hi tvan, you're a genius!

Just two days ago I've installed the Skype extension for Firefox 2.2.0.80; well I've just deactivated it on the list of "componenti aggiuntivi" (I guess these are the Italian term for "add-ons"). I tried a couple of PDF and, for my deepest pleasure, it works again! I will not say anything about these mysteries of computers because I want to be polite!

I have to do some more experiment to be sure, but I think the problem is solved. At any rate there's some mess in the list of RSS feed of my lessons, and I think CP will fix soon or later.

Regarding the procedure of editing the address of PDF, traditional PDF, and PDF/html, ehm... thank you, I was one of those who written something  about in a previous comment...

Really I want to thank you, all of you that helped me so much.

P.S.: could anyone give me an idea of where may I find a complet list of the English terms for all the menus of Mozilla Firefox, IE and others? It seems to be a usefull thing in these last times...
