Hey Jay and Jo!

Our apparently technologically illiterate group can finally get our project discussion online cause I figured out how this works haha.

So, as we discussed in our meeting last Thursday we should all now be up-to-date with the ongoing sagas of Zhang Liang and Lili. Looks like things aren't going too well for them! Maybe these relationships that start online just don't work. Zhang Liang is clearly much more open about his feelings for Lili than she is. Although Zhang Liang's tactics aren't so "smooth" as he said, I love his line "you're eyelashes are so pretty"! Lili doesn't seem to like Zhang Liang expressing himself so this, combined with the emergence of Liu Xiang and Chen Jing's jealousy all seem to be working against them!

So, we need one person for Zhang Liang, one for Lili and one to be Liu Xiang/Chen Jing - this person has to be able to express the jealous nature of Chen Jing (and her lobster fetish) and of course the success of Liu Xiang.

I think we could get pretty creative with props. I really liked the idea we came up with for An Old Flame. Any more ideas for The Jealous Friend?

We can discuss it all further in our meeting tomorrow. Did you both manage to podcast the dialogues?

Katherine Katherine Katherine, Coodos on working this thing out! Now it shall be a handy tool for discussing our project. I've started to go through the dialogues, and they are rather saucy with alot of underlying feelings at play, you have described Li Li well I think, Maybe Jay should play Zhang, being male of course, then again we could do a bit of a feminist interpretation ! haha I'll nominate for Liu Xiang/Chen Jing, if thats ok, just because I think id make an awesome millionaire! I'm yet to get onto the podcasts, but will try d/l them now. I think the key will be contextualising the characters, and then working on tones individually, then we can get together to make the conversations and expressions flow. RE props I'm thinking we will definately be coffee cups for 'An Old Flame' Lets keep discussing online, this is a great tool ! Zaijian Zhou-An-Na

你们好!我也同意,this forum platform is a good tool for being able to communicate any time of day or night, its like having a continuous online group meeting! I have also started reading through the dialogues, almost finished them all. I have read through our dialogues (The Jealous Friend and An Old Flame) and analysed them in detail, writing pinyin and english translations as needed, so my pages are getting quite crazy with notes everywhere. I am quite enjoying this group project because it gives us non-textbook examples of 'real life' situations. Jenny (my language exchange partner) couldnt stop laughing as she read through the drama, especially when she read "the Jealous Friend" and we tried to explain to each other 电灯泡是什么意思。 Apparently in China a third-wheel on a date is a 电灯泡 (light bulb). Then our conversation turned to light globe wattage, which apparantly is used to describe the level of third-wheelness of the 电灯泡. If the third wheel is too distracting on the date then they can be described as 100 watts. I find these small cultural differences (and similarities) quite assusing. Once we have each individually gone through the drama, to get an idea of the entire plot, we should study in depth our two dialogues, and then practice together, this way our face time will be made more efficient because we should just be practicing the lines, memorizing them and adding dramatic flare rather than writing out pinyin and not being confident with our lines. Looking foward to our meeting later on today, Jay

Yes - Zhou (Jo) and I were talking about the light bulb issue today, it's hilarious! Makes sense though. It's good to listen to the full lessons by Jenny and John (where's Ken?!) because they provide more insight into the dialogues than what we may deduce ourselves. Good meeting today guys - let's just work on our individual parts for now and keep brainstorming ideas for drama!
