May 12, 2008, 04:01 AM posted in General DiscussionHey Viv, I have done a translation of the fated meeting, the basic summary follows: A guy (Chen Li) walks into a cafe to meet a girl(Zhang Liang), they haven't met in person before, only online. Chen Li was late because there was alot of traffic, and he makes a joke about his appearance, which Chen Li finds funny. They both order Mochas and speak about work and the forum which they met on and how they manage to fit in the time to go online, Zhang Liang secretly goes on while working overtime and Chen Li has alot of spare time and nothing to do after work so goes online then. Zhang Liang implies that he has enjoyed meeting Chen Li and then the drinks arrive.
I had trouble with one of the sentences in the dialogue, Chen Li's second line :你本人和网上的感觉挺像的。

May 12, 2008, 04:27 AMI have thought about it and had a pretty similar guess to the meaning like "you seem like you do online" or something similar to that.

zhang liang says to chenLi oh its getting late i will take you, but she is reluctant and does not want to trouble him...they ahve obviously been eating a meal together because chen li says how full she is and that Zhang liang has once again ordered more dishes than needed...then things get a bit soppy with Zhang saying what a happy day it is, and how pretty chenli's eyelashes are...and i think its kinda funny when chenli replies "its because i use mascara"...so after that attempt at a compliment fails, zhang reverts to the lips saying how pretty they are, he says that he is quite say now though that they must leave eachother for the timebeing and chenli agrees

i was just looking at another groups postings, and they said that they had talked to the teacher and were meant to be preparing two dialogues - i did not know of this!, did you, well i spose not, but yeh, confusing. viv

May 13, 2008, 04:56 AMalso i just loked over the lover's spat dialogue and made a translation... the couple are out shopping together, and chenli is doing the usually girly thing asking "do you like this/what do you think of this?" - about every single clothing item.....zhiang liang is obviously trying his best to be the good boyfriend with comments such as very good and exceptionally good, but either his patience wears thin (which is what chengli thinks) or he merely does what i think many boys do (no offence to them) which is if they like it just buy it and get the shopping over and done with....chengli is not happy with his response accusing him that he does not want to be there and saying now she is in a bad mood and does not wish to continue shopping, but instead go home.....zhiang tries to save the situation, saying she is right, and that buying clothes definately entails having to see all the options, but cheng li wont hear of it, and says that he can go on shopping but she doesnt want to......takl about a dummy spit

just listened to "an old flame" story - some very interestng happenings - i shall update you:
Lili is sitting in a cafe, waiting for zhiang, when up comes Lui Xiang - who is apparently an old friend....Lili makes a funny comment saying "why are you here, i remember that you did not like coffee!" - hehe i think its such a funny comment, but maybe she was startled by his sudden unexpected appearance - anyway it could indicatre that they knew eachother quite well.....anyway Lui goes on to say he cannot do without coffee now, and he comes downstairs everyday from his office to have it - Lili is startled by this information, saying that he must be in a large company to have an office in the nice building....Lui is quite modest i suppose, but its obvious he has done quite wel for himself....he has to get off, for a meeting but says he will be in contact - i think she is quite excited.....at this moment, zhiang liang comes over, all apologetic for being late, he remarks on Lui, who he saw just leave from talking to her, then realises that he has seen him on tv too, then the pin drops and he realises him to be Lui, the 30 year old internet billionaire,....,lili just indifferently agrees, saying he use to be an old friend, but Zhiang doesnt like the sound of this asking more questions such as "are you familiar with him" or in other words do you know him very well?....she says alright, but then asks zhiang why is he unhappy......gosh chengli take one guess!

May 12, 2008, 04:26 AMhey susan, thanks for the summery it helped me understand, but yeh i am looking over that particular sentence now, it is confusing...just looking at the conext, and reading zhang's comment afterwards i think its refering to how zhang compares to what he is like on the internet, for example zhang then says something like "yeh people say i am better looking than my photo for a joke". so a sort of rough interpetation could be, you are quite similar to your character/personality online....but i could be wrong!, i am just reading over growing affections now, to give you a summary
