① Ganmɑ yɑ (干吗呀) In colloquial Chinese we often say “Ganma ya” to express “why”. When you don’t understand why somebody has done something, you can use this expression.
① 干吗呀  在口语中,我们常常用“干吗呀”来表示“为什么”,当你不理解对方为什么这样做的时候就可以这样说。

② You shenme dɑbuliɑode (有什么大不了的) Here it means “it doesn’t matter, it is not that serious, it won’t lead to a bad result”. When your friend is worried about something, you can say, “Aiyɑ , bie dɑnxin ’Well, don’t worry’. You shenme dɑbuliɑode.”
② 有什么大不了的  在这里的意思是“没有关系”,“没那么严重”,“不会有坏影响的”。当你的朋友很担心什么事情的时候,你可以说:“哎呀,别担心,有什么大不了的!”

③ Yumen (郁闷)  Depressed, distressed. When you run into trouble or come across something bad and you feel you can do nothing to alter the situation, you can use this expression to describe your feelings. For example, having been window-shopping all afternoon, you end up finding nothing you like. At this time you will say to yourself, “Zhen yumen!”
③ 郁闷  是烦闷、不舒畅的意思。当你遇到麻烦或者坏事,又一点儿办法也没有时,就可以用这个词来形容你的心情了。比如:你在商场逛了一下午,没有买到一件喜欢的东西,这个时候,你就会在心里说“真郁闷!”

④ Sui nide biɑn bɑ (随你的便吧)  When you have done all you can to persuade your friend and yet he still won’t listen to you, you may become exasperated and want to leave him alone. At this time the sentence that best expresses your anger and resignation is “Sui nide biɑn bɑ.”
④ 随你的便吧  当你费尽口舌劝说你的朋友,可他就是不听你的话时,你心里会很生气,不想再继续管他的事了,这时候表达你生气和放弃的最好的句子就是“随你的便吧”。

When dealing with the Chinese, you often hear them say “Re si le”“(热死了), “Kun si le”(困死了), “Lei si le”(累死了) ,“Fɑn si le”(烦死了) and so on. So many si le may make you wonder why on earth the Chinese like this word so much. Does si le mean “dead” here?
跟中国人交往的时候,你常常会听到中国人说“热死了”“困死了”“累死了”“烦死了”……那么多“死了”, 中国人到底为什么那么喜欢说这个词呢?“死了”在这里是“dead”的意思吗?

Eh si le and lei si le can of course mean really “die of hunger” and “die of exhaustion”, but in everyday life, like the English word deadly, they usually mean “very, terribly”. So, eh si le means “ extremely hungry, starving, ravenous”. Similarly, lei si le usually does not mean “die from exhaustion”, rather it expresses one’s physical exhaustion in an exaggerated manner, meaning the same as “very tired” . The use of the word si simply serves to add vividness to one’s expression. So an adjective denoting one’s feelings, when modified by the words si le, can express such emotion to the maximum.

For example:

① When your girl friend has been complaining to you about a trivial matter for a whole day, you can then say, “Fɑn si le.”
① 你的女朋友因为一件小事埋怨了你一整天,这时你就可以说 :“烦死了!”
② When your teacher has given you too much homework and your mother won’t let you go out to play with your friends, you can say, “I have been doing homework at home the whole time these past few days. Jiɑnzhi bɑ wo bie si le  ‘I am bored to death’ ”.
② 老师布置的作业太多,妈妈也不让你出门找朋友玩。这时,你就可以说:“这几天老是在家写作业,简直把我憋死了!”

③ When your darling pet dog falls ill and won’t eat or drink anything and even the vet can do nothing about it, you will surely be ji si le “extremely worried”.

③ 你心爱的小狗生病了,不吃不喝,连医生也没有办法时,你一定会“急死了”。
