Hi,

I live in Barnes, SW London and listen addictively to Chinesepod casts on my train/tube commutes to teach Chinese in Dorking and Barnet -- as a very 'lao tong xue' (I first studied in Durham and China in the 1970s) it's the way I keep up with current vocab -- swapping my 'comrade' and '4 modernisations' vocab for 'websites' and 'mobiles'

Hi Tee, I am also in Barnes. We are probably standing next to each other on the tube listening to CPod!

Are you aware of any local classes, groups etc for learners? Ive googled it but only found some v expensive course providers.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi, Steve, good to hear of another Barnes-ite poddie.   The only class I've attended in London was at SOAS, -- I went to the Advanced class there for two terms last year, two good teachers and I enjoyed the fact it included library use.  However it became really expensive this year, so I didn't sign up again.  I know of various individual teachers (native speakers) who give classes in the Sheen/Mortlake area and there was talk of a Mandarin class starting in Rose Cottage as part of their new language sessions but I haven't heard of anything recently on that.  If there were more of us around the area we could try to sort a conversation group?
