Who has some advice related to travel to Shanghai?

Must see places? e.g.Huangpu River and the Bund, Jade Buddha Temple, Nanjing Road, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Yuyuan Garden, Xin Tian Di and Zhujiajiao.Comments on these places?

Places to avoid?

Good value places to stay?

Good restaurants?

etc.

Hi Bababardwan,

Just returned from Shanghai, just a few thoughts:

Personally I did not like the Jade Buddha temple that much. I liked the Jingan Temple more.

We had dinner (again) at the Fragrant Camphor Garden on Hengshan Lu nr 2. Nice food, very clean, nice people and not expensive and located in French Concession (nice to have a walk there!).

Also liked M50 the art area on Moganshan Lu nr 50 and the Shanghai Art Museum. A few months ago I visited an interesting expo in MOCA.

Other suggestion (maybe a bit expensive, but I guess you don't visit those places every day): a drink in Cloud9, 87th floor Grand Hyatt, also the lounge has nice view. Bar Rouge terrace with nice view (Bund).

Hi Bababardwan,

Must see places?

  • Nanjing Road : expensive shopping just to see
  • Jinmao tower take Cloud9, 87th floor Grand Hyatt impressive view
  • Shanghai World Financial Center, the highest tower of China
  • Xin Tian Di there is a bar TMSK absolutely fashionable.
  • Zhujiajiao I regret not have been to, but it seems better than Suzhou and closer to Shanghai.
  • Shanghai center theatre: Chinese acrobatics

Good restaurants: typically any xiaolongbao, food street if you want to experience real stuff.

Please check my post where I uploaded most must see places in 2 video.

If you want good cheap food, try 保罗 (Baoluo) in 富民路,近长乐路. Fumin Lu, near Changle Lu. Try the aubergine sandwich, rolled seafood. Pretty good man.

Try also going to 泰康路 (Taikang Lu), that's near 瑞金一路 (Ruijin Yi Lu)。 They have a good art/cafe area there. I heard it on an episode of Dear Amber (Shikumen v Hutong episode), and I loved it when I went.

For shopping, if you want to get cheap stuff (and get harrassed at the same time. hehe), go to 七浦路(qipu lu). It's a whole area with buildings and everything packed with goodies.

For electronics, try the 徐家汇 (Xujiahui) area. Line One of the subway has a stop there, and just exit anywhere. Lots of big malls there. Go to the mall with the huge globe, they have tons of electronics there.
