I am going to move to China next year to teach, and I am learning the Chinese language. I figure it makes sense to do so since I will be living there. anyway, talk to yall later.

I actually interviewed once for a teaching job here in Shanghai when I first arrived. I've never taught before, so I was kind of nervous, but I felt like I would be able to do it anyway.

Anyhow, the interviewers weren't much interested in my Chinese speaking abilities. They ended up being more concerned that I've never taught a class before, and they wondered how I would approach it. I didn't have a plan, and this ended up being the deal-breaker. They told me I could get back to them if I figured out a plan, but I ended up being hired in an I.T. position at another company, so...

You can get by without knowing much Chinese in Shanghai (I don't know about other cities), but life is a lot better if you do have some skills in the language.

Hello everyone,

I have been in China for a month now, and my Chinese learning has dropped off a bit since I have arrived. This is partly because sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with how difficult the language seems to be at times. What I have learned using Chinesepod has helped me considerably, and I can speak Chinese well in consideration of the fact that I have been here a short time. I just have to somehow work through the discouragement that I feel from time to time, and continue to study.
