马+夬 (jué) 马+是 (tí) 鸟+夬 (jué) and 是+鸟 (tí) are single characters (radical+phonetic) that don't have a Unicode representation.sa

夬 koat > kwai > kuai > kuai (guai)
决 khoat > khwai > khuai > khuai (kuai)
快 kiwat > kiwet > kiue > (jue)

As is always the case, the vowel "i" located after the consonant caused a big difference in modern sounds of this series characters. Both consonant and vowel of "快" changed drastically compared to other characters in this group.

I forgot to mention that 夬 is |||||¦ one of the 64 hexagrams (六十四卦 liùshísìguà) from the 易经 (Yìjīng) Book of Changes

They are ancient "barcodes", aren't they?

isn't it a cool way to show 八卦 / 六十四卦 since there is no unicode for them (borrowed it from the wikipedia entry)? looks even more barcozy in bold : |||||¦

Hi goulniky,

I'm a bit tipsy now, so let me tell you something. The long bar in the barcode represents "阳" (positive), and this usually means "a man". The two short bars indicate "阴", which indicates "a woman" in Yin-Yang thought. Don't ask me why. Good night.

one bar could be for single-minded, two bars for open-minded, able to multitask (do several things at once :-))
