“厨” is a very cleverly invented simplified character. Its traditional form is "廚", and it consists of a semantic radical "广" (yan3,a room/house) and a phonetic part "尌" (shu4, set up, stand, 竖立,建立).

"廚" was simplified by means of changing "广" into "厂", and "尌" into "豆 + 寸". Interestingly, the shape of the simplified character "厨" (a kitchen) makes more sense than that of its traditional counterpart "廚", since "豆 + 寸" means "a cauldron + a hand" in ancient Chinese.
