Bring it back!  Poems with Pete gives irreplaceable insight into the beauty of Chinese culture.  Thoughtful, relevant, and literary--we deserve it.

judycarruth, I freely confess that I never read English (my native tongue) poetry and absolutely do not understand Chinese poetry unless led via nose ring.

Nevertheless, I miss Poems With Pete for that very reason.  It's a part of Chinese culture that isn't accessible to me.

I need to sign my name over here too! :) Even though you haven't seen me on boards for a while, I'm still on Cpod:) Am now having a small vacation at home:).

To PWP:)

Cpod is doing a good job, but to be a really competitive Chinese langugae learning source advanced content is needed. Believe me, apart newbies there is a lot of foreigners seeking a way to improve their Mandarin. Moreover, Chinese is not only tones and characters - it is a representation of  a vast, deep and inspiring culture. And this was the job PWP did - these poems were a delight for an advanced learner and in the meanwhile PWP showed a whole new perspective on Chinese language to a newbie/beginner learner. with contribution on the discussion board it was a delight for anybody.

I am asking for more!

And also I am asking for more of advanced content, to be competitive service providing Chinese over the net not only language drills are needed, but also something to chew, think over, digest! Something like PWP.

As well..please notice - PWP also did a great job in improving foreigners opinion about Chinese poetry/culture, discusions gave very deep insights.

And...we shared poems from our countries and views of the multi-national Cpod society. This exchange on such level is hard to get anywhere, PWP made it possible.

I really think, that Pete (pearltowepete) contributed a lot and helped us open our horizons - so why not let him contribute more? Why not let him work and continue his great educational work on CPod. People like him are rare.

Yes, dear Praxis Language, Cpod part - bring PWP back.

Hi tvan and rjverki

I agree with you guys. I've never seen such a come-in-handy show on Chinese poetry that provide you with recitings, texts, helpful explanations and a lot of interesting Q and A in the forums.

Honestly, I tried to "learn" classical Chinese poems several times before without success, because just reading books such as "唐诗三百首" by myself was NOT so entertaining, on the contrary rather boring.

The best thing about "Poems with Pete" is that even newbie and elementary learners can enjoy Chinese poems by listening to poems and knowing how ancient Chinese poets thought and felt.

With Poem with Pete, you can enjoy great Chinese poems by 杜甫 or 李白 even without knowing about classical Chinese grammar and vocaburary. I just hope the show will come back soon!

I am a newbie and I found poems with pete very educational, even at my level. Like the history channel it made things I could never get from a book interesting and understandable. I was sad to see it go.

judycarruth,

Hear, hear.I completely agree it's time we had Poems with Pete back for season 2.That was an amazing series that left us all wanting more as shown by the many requests here [and elsewhere if I recall rightly] in the final lesson.Pete opened a door to such a beautiful part of the Chinese culture that is otherwise inaccessible for most of us,and did it in such a professional and engaging way.I would ponder these poems for a whole week until the next one came along.I really enjoyed the beauty of the poems but also that it was so thought provoking. These lessons were something unique, and the discussions that ensued were amongst the best on this site.I think it appeals to the better part of our nature too.So please bring back Poems with Pete, season 2 before too long.

One more here for a come back for Poems with Pete (More poems with Pete?!).

My language learning motivation is a bit flat at the moment and could do with Pete's particular brand of intellectualism to look forward to every week.

Actually my subscription expires in a week.  Any chance of Chinesepod giving us their intentions in the next News and Features?

I too miss Poems With Pete a lot, and would like to see Season II soon!  PWP was a real treat for us, and like I've said before I felt like a lot of diversity on the boards here sort of went out with the final episode of Season I.

These lessons were something unique, and the discussions that ensued were amongst the best on this site.I think it appeals to the better part of our nature too.

Baba--同意!

It may be repeating to say, but also I wish Poems with Pete into a new season. I can hardly imagine anybody other than Pete having such a flow in reading, translating and explaining a poem. Whereas with flow I refer to the highest achievable artistic level, when your mind joins with your instrument.

Poems with Pete Season 1 was a wonderful experience not only for myself but also for my wife who was looking forward hearing and reciting the latest poem.

Poems with Pete opened a world otherwise unaccessible to me. I found it rich in culture, history, language learning, and at the same time romantic and entertaining. Pete is so in his element here, and his love for the Chinese language and culture was so contagious.

They promised us a "season two" if and when - how about it? Im sure Pete is willing, lets bring it back. If you would like to see season 2, please speak up.

Let me add a resounding "yes" to the proposal to bring back Poems with Pete. His analysis was always refreshing and provided great insight into some of the key ideas of Chinese culture as reflected in China's poetic tradition.  The feature was unique as well--not something one gets at other Chinese language sites.  I savored each of his episodes as a special treat and am "hungry" for more.

poems with pete provides a literary element to the site which in my own personal view is essential in order for students to gain insights into the logic of chinese thought. chinese literature and philosophy is largely implicit, what is not said is far more important than what is said. this is also conveyed in everyday conversation.

I'd like to see a return of pete's program. and perhaps a program that also canvasses chinese philosophy.

even a rudimentary understanding will aid any learner in their pursuit to master one of the most complex, multi-layered, and rich languages in the world.

@miantiao, and to master a language you must also master it's culture.

Yes I would like to see more about Chinese culture as a supplement to the lessons.  Otherwise this place could become just too serious and ?boring.

After all churning out lesson after lesson after lesson after lesson adding to thousands of lessons after lesson ....  can sap the enthusiasm...

If "once a week" schedule is too much for Chinesepod manpower, "twice a month" would be OK for me. How about featuring a modern poem for a change? For example, I'd like to listen to Mao ze Dong's poems! I hear 毛泽东 was good at making poems.

Pearltower Pete opened the door to a Golden Age of classical Chinese poetry. He ushered us in to a world so fine we could hardly breathe with excitement, waiting for the next instalment.  Better than prescription drugs.

How many more old poets are out there, having failed their Imperial exams and wandered in the countryside for ten years before settling down in an old grass hut beside a misty lake to drink away his sorrows?

Come on Pete, there are 50,000 poems to go; you can do it!
