I've started a blog where I'm sharing some out-of-print reissues from Hong Kong of some old shidaiqu (時代曲)/ mando-pop songs from the 1930s-1960s.  I've found them a pretty good way to memorize vocabulary and an enjoyable way to listen to the spoken language.

I'm scanning the booklets also, so you'll have the lyrics, and about once a week I'm going to post translations and notes for a song.

anyone is free to come by and try it out- there's absolutely no charge and no hoops to jump through.  bear in mind that i've JUST started it, so there's not a ton of content yet, but if you check it once a week or so, there should be a steady stream of new stuff.

also- if anyone want's to offer their own translations of songs, I'd gladly accept submissions and give credit where credit is due.

ok, I might be the biggest nerd in the world but we need cpod to put the dialogues and mix them on top of mandarin pop music...I have actually gone to the gym with 2 mp3 players and two sets of headphones...on small kind that you put in your ear and one big one that goes over hte ears...the lesson dialogue plays in the small one and the music in the big headphones..

man that was embarrassing, shouldn't have shared :)
