ChinesePod on NBC Nightly News

We've been waiting for several weeks for it to air. Now NBC Nightly News with Brian Lehrer say they will broadcast a report on ChinesePod on Tuesday, Oct 16th. It's part of a week long series of reports on China.

We understand that ChinesePod, although highly significant in a cosmic sense, may not be as newsworthy as, say, a global crisis. (This is not false modesty, believe me.) Let's hope the global community behaves itself around that time, lest we get pushed off the news agenda.

Awesome. Hopefully someone will upload the report on Youtube so those of us not State-side can watch it after the fact.

That's awesome! Just don't let the fame go to your head... Ditto on the YouTube idea; I don't have TV in my apartment (I know, I know... I just got used to living without it after a while. And I'd rather spend my money on Chinese lessons).

I'm sure there will, er, somehow be a Youtube link for the recording. Here's the link to the NBC site also: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ They may host it, too.

Haha... I'm not too sure about the whole NBC nightly news - Youtube thing but hopefully NBC will put the video up on their site for us to link to it (fingers crossed!). It was pretty cool to have met all the NBC Nightly crew team. It sure brought life to our quiet little factory corner of Huang Pi Nan Lu. :-)

I hope I get to see it... I'm hoping that they'll use at least 3 seconds of the part where they interviewed me. (Although, I suppose it's fair to say that the parts with Ken and Jenny will be more interesting...)

Well, maybe I'll bribe one of my friends with a DVR as a back-up. So are you guys actually located in an old factory or something? I keep getting this image of computers randomly scattered amongst a bunch of old machinery with cables laying everywhere...and a bunch of cots on the floor where you guys sleep. Kind of like the ship from the first Matrix movie.

Actually, Sparechange, there's a tour of the factory on YouTube, but I think it's a bit dated. Maybe it's time for the occupants of 751 Huangpi Nan Rd to make a new one? (cough! cough!)

Cool, thanks Christian. Wow... I would feel so exposed working in there. I much prefer my little corner in the office with my bank of monitors so no one can see what I'm doing. :) Of course, in their case, they're actually supposed to be surfing chinesepod.com all day.

"Brian Lehrer"??????????????? Uh, I do believe it's Brian Williams. (Sure hope he or his staff isn't learning Mandarin yet, or they might pull the segment) ((kidding))

My mistake. Of course it's Brian Williams, not Brian Lehrer!

I think NBC should be creating it's own category just for us. They're apparently doing an entire week of China-related news though, so the story may not fall cleanly into their other news categories.

From what I've jsut heard the report could be delayed for a day, but will go ahead. Not sure, but as long as it runs I'm happy.

Were any of the reporters able to pick up a few things in Chinese?

The guy who did the report is Mark Mullen. He's a well known broadcaster who now lives in Beijing as NBC's correspondent there. I think he knows some Chinese.
