Consolidating CPod files in iTunes?

Hi all,

I have what might a weird problem. Hopefully, I can explain it properly...

I'm using iTunes for organizing my CPodcasts. I started by subscribing to a public feed from the iTunes store, and received (and kept) a bunch ofpodcasts from that. Then, when Cpod offered the personalized feed, I subscribed to that too.

Now I have two CPod feeds which are updated with much of the same material. I would just quit subscribing to the older one, but I have the old podcast files which I would like to keep. I get the the podcasts from the personalized feed, but I can't get the old ones.

What I would like to do is consolidate the files from the two feeds, and subscribe to the personalized feed only.

Is there a way to move the files from the old feed into the directory where the files from the newer feed are kept, and have iTunesrecognize the change and update its lists accordingly. Or is there something else I would have to do?

TIA,

As far as I know that's not possible. What you can do is take the files from the old feed out of their original directory and re-import them into iTunes as regular MP3s. If you use Smart Playlists to manage your podcasts, you can set them up to deal with those imported MP3s as well. Unfortunately, iTunes' handling of podcasts is less than ideal, despite the popularity of the iTunes/iPod platform for podcast consumption.

braymp, The same topic was discussed here: http://forum.chinesepod.com/viewtopic.php?t=730&highlight= I have exactly the same situation as you. As John says, it is not possible consolidate as you would prefer. However, you don't need to re-import the files from the old feed. Just set the old feed to "unsubscribe" and leave the old files where they are. Use a smart play list (an example is described in the above thread) which will pick up all of your Cpod files; old podcasts, new feed podcasts and imported podcasts (if any).

Hi Phil and JohnB, Thanks for your suggestions. The Smart Playlists did the trick (or at least well enough).
