I meet a lot of foreigners,when they say things like "你们是几个人?", we just accept it because we can understand what they mean,but the grammer is wrong. when I was young,my english teacher told us not to speak english like "there have",because Chinese always makes this kind of mistake--("there have" is just like 那里有..) in english ,. how many people ＩＳ there? in chinese,那里 有 几 个人

March 3, 2008 at 1:09 PMhi,facybb you asked a really tough question, in Chinese,If you want to say things like an apple,two books... there must be a word in the middle, that is 个, 只. 本...... the stucture is just like : a piece of paper what "piece" to the "a piece of paper" is what "本" to 一本书 (这本书 is short for 这一本书, 那本书 is the same reason) so if u want to say correct Chinese each time u want to say something like a book,an apple...the Chinese character just like the word "piece" can not be saved , examples: 一本书 一双鞋(a pair of shoes,双 is pair) 一只笔 一扇门 一座山.... 这is this,那is that.这些is these,那些 is those you just remember them.it is too difficult to explain.
