May 17, 2008 at 6:35 AMInteresting that you translated 多乱 as "ugly" ... seems like the idea of "chaos" or "craziness" or "instability" (乱) occupies a special place in Chinese culture.

May 17, 2008 at 6:09 AMIs there a negative connotation when using 小资? Seems to be a pretty politically charged term from the old days. Also, is using 牛 as an adjective meaning "excellent" a recent thing? Thanks.

May 17, 2008 at 5:32 AMlilywhytelegs: Yes, there are Blackberries in China, but they're not that common (popular with the business "elite" though). Like Ken, I'm old enough to remember when cell phones were called 大哥大.

May 16, 2008 at 11:21 AMelee8888cn, Thanks for the explanation about Nipples versus Pearls (relative ball size). I don't like the texture of the pearls or the surprise you get when you suck one up unexpectedly. And they're very caloric drinks, as other commenters have noted. I agree with Jenny that manly men should avoid drinking girlie drinks. :-)

May 17, 2008 at 6:52 AMIs the 咯 a south China thing? Or maybe a Southeast Asian Chinese import? Both 咯 & 啦 sound feminine to me -- not sure why you say they're gender neutral. Shouldn't manly men (like me) avoid using these particles in public? :)
