ive learned the word for "but" to be "ke shi", but i also see that "dan shi" is used is this a dialect difference and what, being in Hainan would I most likely use?

MSG is JUNK. It is not only dangerous, but also has no nutritional value what so ever. Something that is "natural" or "organic" doesn't mean diddily squat. There are plenty of natural things in the world that will kill you if you eat it. No body needs msg in their food that spices and salt cant give the same flavor. The problem is that peoples tongues are too use to the flavors of meat, that they forget the savory tastes of eating vegetarian. I have been a vegi chef for fifteen years and never once used msg for anything. I can recognize the bombarding assault of msg and have since the last time i ate it, been very dilligent about asking people to leave it out. I would suggest those here to do the same. Thanks for the lesson and comments the group has left

Thanks again for a informative lesson. I always learn quite a bit from these lessons and from the chat group. I was eighteen in 1988. The eighties were a decade worth forgetting.....trust me

just wanted to say thanks so much to jenny, john and ken for this fantastic lessons on tones and for chinese pod in general. ive been bummed trying to learn this language and communicate and you guys are the next best thing to an actual teacher. Thanks to all the people writing in, its a plus to the mandarin lessons.
