"请问您贵姓" is still most commonly used to ask for someone's surname, and 贵 is relevant to complete the phrase =)

您好!Thank you so much for watching and listening so intently. I'm glad you asked about these expressions

1. 敝姓___: "敝" is simply a way of saying "me/I/my." "敝" is used in this context to express politeness because the word encompasses a deeper meaning that shows inferiority to the person you are addressing to. You are intentionally placing yourself at a lower position to the person you are speaking with to express honour and respect. So the word "敝" is very relevant when it comes to introducing yourself in the workspace.

2.先不用: I can see why this is confusing, because "先" can be translated as "first," however, in this context the "先" means "now," so this expression means, "no need for now," or "not now" - maybe next time.

Yes! 电 can refer to a phone call as in 电话 (diàn huà), or it can refer to it's literal meaning which is electricity, in which this case refers to the chemistry between two people =)

Thank you for the lesson suggestion! It is definitely a very interesting topic we can share about Chinese culture.

Thank you for your question. 费心 Fèixīn refers to the heart (心 xīn), so when someone uses this term, it means "to put heart into doing something." 破费 Pòfèi, on the other hand, refers to finances, which would mean "to break the bank."

Hi! Yes indeed the subtleties can be so hard to grasp in different cultures. In many parts of the West, beating around the bush is considered more inconsiderate whereas in Chinese culture, it is almost as if this type of mannerism is an adopted form of polite expression in the work space. Haha! These honest mistakes can be really funny, especially as you mentioned your experience at the trade fair in GuangZhou! Neither individual intended on creating hostility!

Thank you for sharing! We have more of these videos coming up soon!
