That's it, that's it! haha...I was kinda close in the pronuciation...not.  So how do I respond? Is it like in English, "Please call me John," or "Please call me Mr. Smith."? Wo de ming zi shi Lan. Wo xing Tian.  ?

BTW, people have said to me "zenme chenhu ni"...if I remember correctly. Is this in one of the lessons already? I think people have asked me both at the tennis courts and in business setting, so I'm a bit confused on the politeness level, and how/when I should use it. duo xie!

ALT HELLO - I keep forgeting to ask CPOD, and I always have a blank look on my face when people use this phrase to ask me what my name is, it's not the "ni gui xing," or "ni jiao shenme ming zi." It sounds something like "qu chai"...but I keep forgetting.

It seems a rather formal way of asking someone's name. One person I frustrated enough that they finally just said, I mean "ni de ming zi." Ohhh! haha

What is it?....

VIRTUOUS CIRCLE - tsk tsk tsk Amber, if you patronized the fine dining cuisine of both McDonalds and KFC in China you would realize they are both entirely non-smoking and to-a-tee Chinese don't even make an issue of it. It is just a clear-air environment. :)

Hi Chillosk, I don't know in the world of tattoos if "niu" is cool or not, but in the vernacular, it's often a term used to mean a guy that is pretty tough, strong, etc. For example, in sports you might yell out to a guy "What an awesome shot, 牛!“ In a sense like saying "The Chicago Bulls".

Hi Windwalker, are you Canadian, from the U.S., from North America, South America? I think a lot of "other" Americans might be quite insulted these days if we lump ourselves with them! Just joking, terms are a pain, but sometimes a necessary crutch until one gets to know a person. Personally, I find "nationality" also quite a useless descriptor in this day and age!

Haha, I have already for a few months been sneaking in some listening of Cpod, but because the proverbial "life" stuff has been a bit too much lately, I haven't had time to comment. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. When I heard that my tagname had become a "verb", well I had to drop in and chat a bit!
