Pete!  You're leaving!  Maybe you will find you miss that 煎饼 (jiānbǐng) from that stall on wanhangdu lu as much as I do.  My new daily-- ham egg and cheese on a roll just isn't quite the same :)

Good luck pengyou!

ps- hi everybody

Just as a follow up, I did notify Praxis of my new job offer well in advance, and I did not post about it on ChinesePod's boards or my blog out of respect for my former employer, as I felt it would be unethical to advertise it on this site.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, well, I guess that I have to come in and let everyone know my whole life story in order to clear all of this up.

I decided to leave China for very valid and very personal reasons, after 6 years in Taiwan and the Mainland.  I knew it would be hard starting over any where, but because New York is my favorite city, I decided that it was as good as anyplace to give it a go. I took a 2 month leave from ChinesePod to spend some time at home, and see if I could also find some way to make my dream of living in NY come true.  I prerecorded all my shows so that it wouldn't interrupt Praxis lesson flow. I still wasn't sure if I could make the move, if things would work out, so I sublet my Shanghai apartment to a friend, as I still wasn't really sure how things would pan out.

When I got to NY, an apartment came up to rent through a friend, so obstacle number one was overcome right away.  I then started the search for a job.  Not an easy task.  Not in this economy.

Like most job-hunters, I would scour craigslist.  I actually applied for every job in my field that i would see on craigslist, and one day happened upon a listing for a korean podcast host.  Well, NY is expensive and after 2 plus months unemployed, I was applying for everything under the sun.  When I applied, of course the company was very surprised to find that I was in NY, as very coincidentally, they too had just made the corporate decision to open a NY office (both the bosses are from here). Obviously they didn't want me for the korean position, but they were in the process of expanding, thus opening the NY office, and they already had a Chinese podcast product in the planning stages.  (They already do podcasts for many other languages, Chinese was the next one they wanted to add).  Yes, in February, I signed up for an account so I could see what they had in the works.  Actually, we didn't even get started till quite a while after that.  I don't know what else to say because there is no conspiracy, it was just a lucky happy thing that happened to me.  Call it serendipity.  I bascially needed a job and found one in my field (and it's a pretty small field) and can now pay the rent.  I'm pretty happy about that!

So, this is the truth.  I am a little disappointed that anyone concerned didn't contact me directly with their concerns, as my email address is clearly given in this podcast.  I could have cleared matters up immediately.

I am extremely disappointed that people, including my former boss, would feel comfortable smearing my name and intimating that I am some kind of a liar based on pure speculation, conjecture, and most of all, gossip.

hey everyone,

To all that sent me such sweet emails, thank you I am totally touched.  And i'm definitely going to make friends with all our NYC poddies, whether you like it or not (just ask Dottie, hehe!)

a few more comments:

@mbreakstone,

there is nothing in the world to me better than the thought that i could make someone laugh to themselves on the subway.  especially because i do that all the time myself for various reasons ;)

@ Mastiche,

I live in the East Village!  Right near Chinatown!  yay!

@ Chioschick,

You know, come to think of it, you are right, no one ever accuses of me of speaking too quickly anymore.  They do accuse me of my Canadian accent still, however.

@ Eric Lee (of Cpod techie fame),

Not many people know that the DA show would not have heard by anyone if it werent for you!  Eric was the genius that figured out how to get DA on the itunes feed. (he was so patient)!  thank you Eric!

oh and @ JP,

JP, you stop being so humble, you know DA would never have been anything without you. JP saved the day in many of my topic-less moments of angst.  It's just like we sang in that KTV duet that time... hahahah you ARE the wind beneath my wings... fly... flyyyyy...'

@ all the poddies I had the pleasure to meet in person, it has been entirely my honour, and to those of us who didn't get to meet, i hope that our paths one way or another will cross!  It's like weixiao (Barbara) mentioned, we really do have friends, and our cpod family, all over the world.

And....!  If ever in the rest of my life I have a bad day, I am going to come back and read this thread.  I am so spoiled and lucky to have you all!  THANK YOU :)
