In general, I will very rarely sit down on the bus or MRT even if there is a seat available when I get on. I guess I don't like to have to watch and judge everyone that gets on... Is this person pregnant or just big boned? Is this lady old or will she be heartbroken to be offered a seat etc etc...

It reminds me of a Jimmy Carr comment (comedian) - "I would rather see a pregnant woman standing that a fat girl sat down crying"

Wow... maybe an American English Vs British thing but I always say Drink Soup rather than eat soup...

I don't think I have ever had anyone ask me if I want to eat soup... but then again, I suppose it is less common to actually say eat or drink as people normally say things like "do you want some soup" or "I had some soup" etc...

I think our Irish blogging friend may have influenced the liberal use of the word "fluency" here.

Hey everybody...

Is it me or does the part of the dialog where 講什麼的你知道不 is said sound like 講 is being said as a second tone and 不 is being pronounced as bo1

Is this an accent thing or me just not hearing it correctly?

RE: A part of the podcast that discusses going to meet your friends using 見朋友

For those of you living in Taiwan, when you go to meet a friend it is more normal to use the word 找 instead of 見

I get corrected all the time on that one.

Also if you are going to meet someone with the intention of taking them somewhere (i.e home, out for the day) use 接...

Hi Pauley,

kuan is used to measure versions/models and not the item itself.

It is like the difference between saying "this one" and "this model"

這款電視 - this model of television

這台電視 - this television

The difference here is for one, you are refering to that type of TV in general, it could be any TV that is the same model and for the second, you are talking about a particular TV.

There may be something wrong with this lesson.... Today, the radio download is only being saved as 140k in size. Also when I press play on the lesson it buffers almost immediately but does not actually play anything. Stuck at 00:00

I am using Firefox on win7... I also tried a refresh of the page but still no luck.

Thanks for the advice. So I guess, it is something I should not try and use when making my own sentences up but rather only use what I have previously heard.
