I find that if you spark a conversation with Shanghainese taxi drivers, they are generally pretty cool, and definitely have something funny to say. The Shopkeepers of shops I frequent in China lose their indifference pretty fast, and become friendly, in allot of cases going way out of the way to help if you need something.

There is a correlation between big town and small town differences in interaction in just about any culture. In China both classes of town are just bigger, hehe.

I see this at work allot, speaking mandarin amongst my co-workers, some being Shanghainese. Speaking to each other, the Shanghainese have an accent heavily influenced by the Shanghai dialect. If I join the conversation, they mimic the standard accent and slow down. (if I'm lucky). Americans and Englishmen do this at home as well, when mixed with people from other parts of their countries, or non-native speakers.

Even if every facet of 了 is perfectly explained, it really comes down to listening and practice, it will come naturally.

Thanks Cpod, I don't yet venture into Upper Intermediate much, but I play in a band in Shanghai and our drummer generally only speaks Chinese to me. This should help me  to not ask him to repeat so much, hehe

Hey Bodawei,

The curiosity about why TV stations as a subject are included almost forces me to ask why?

For me, the flash cards are something I use on the phone or ipod during those 5 minute breaks like a short car, subway, bus ride. Or sometimes waiting for a meeting to start, whenever I have a minute. Then for the ones that stump me I go back and review the lesson they came from. Boring, I agree, but useful in my case at least. I have 1000 on my phone and Ipod, and it has helped expand my vocabulary.

Also, it's great that in the dialogue you made them save-able as vocabulary, please do some more, a great addition to the flash card pile!
